Reasons We Should Look Forward to New Months & Tips to Guarantee This Month is Better Than Last

Written by: Briana Wright @misswrighttv

Way too often, do we wait for the new year to start new goals and resolutions for ourselves. I look forward to Mondays because it's a fresh start to a new week. So, the start of a new MONTH is like Christmas for me when it comes to goal-setting and turning over a new leaf & it can be the same for you! This is how...

No matter what it is, I know at some point in October you've said to yourself, "Ima work on that...I know, I gotta do better. I need to do more or less of xyz," etc. Look at November as an opportunity to execute all of those things and more by practicing these 4 steps.

1. Give thanks.

When trying to accomplish goals it is important to be positive. Don't beat yourself up about what you did wrong in October. Instead list 3 good things about last month. What did you enjoy? It could be an achieved goal or a bday celebration or even a new piercing! Whatever! Just recognize 3 highlights of last month and be thankful for them.

2. List your goals.

This is important- the main event obviously, but be mindful of how you do this. We want our goals to be specific and realistic. When writing your goal ask yourself, "How can I execute this?" If you can't do it because of money, time, work, whatever- erase it.

To expand on being specific and realistic, by that I mean instead of writing, "I want to save money this month," give yourself a SPECIFIC GOAL (in this case, dollar amount) to meet by the end of the month. So, the specific version would be, "I want to increase my savings by $300 minimum* this month." The "minimum" is crucial because you don't want to limit or underestimate yourself. Be realistic but still have high hopes!

3. Establish your 'how to.'

Remember in tip #2 when we asked, "how can I execute this?" We're answering that question here. This is another reason why it's important to have a specific and concise goal list; because if you realize your how-to is too long, or requires more than you have the means to give, you're setting yourself up for failure (and the goal is literally the opposite lol). So make sure your goal list isn't too long, but I can't really give a suggestion on the length because it depends on the caliber.

Following up on our previous example, if the goal is to increase our savings account by $300 minimum, the how-to would like, "I'll stopping eating out during the week and I'll save $50 from each check." I don't know how often you get paid to know if the math adds up but you get the idea, lol. Give yourself a challenge/task to complete. This makes accomplishing your goal more feasible. You now have the goal AND the blue print to achieving it, so all you gotta do is do it.

4. Affirm!

Last and arguably most important, is to affirm. Write some affirmations in relation to your goals that sound as though it's happened already. When writing or saying these, it's crucial to speak in the affirmative, NOT THE NEGATIVE.

For example, this: "I will not be broke anymore." is INCORRECT. Don't tell the world what you won't do, tell us what is. So, a better affirmation for our continued example would be "I am financially abundant. I am financially free!" We sleep on the amount of power that our words hold. Practice preaching these affirmations to yourself everyday, even if you don't feel it. Saying it out loud repetitively helps to alter your thought process. Then, once you believe it you will see it- literally, speak it into existence.

With these 4 steps, you are destined for success! I encourage you to do your best because once you set your mind to it, anything is possible. Feel free to write these down, speak them aloud or even type them.

I provided a free pdf below where you can download a template to type in your responses! (for my iPhone users, simply select 'Markup' after downloading, hit the + sign, select 'Text' and drag your text box where you want it.) Here's a copy of mine:
